Expertron Group (Pty) Ltd is a privately owned company, with shareholding held between the following individuals: Walter Smuts, Gavin Ehlers and Justin Schoeman.
Expertron CC was established in 1991 by Walter Smuts, doing development for the defence industry (aviation), and providing consultation services to the corporate market in the area of data communications security.
In January 2000, Walter Smuts and Gavin Ehlers founded Expertron Group (Pty) Ltd to begin the development of Expertron's first commercial product, Cell-ID, a strong user authentication system.
In October 2000, Expertron was the first company to join the Gauteng Innovation Hub, located between the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) campus in Pretoria, the University of Pretoria and the Persequor Techno Park.
